Pre-requisites

16 yrs of age at start of the course

 

How well do I need to ski to do this Course?

Students must be able to ski switch on easy blue piste terrain, straight air with a grab on a 4-7m kicker, spin on a 2-3m kicker and slide a box sideways showing appropriate balance and control. Students should also be physically fit for the demands of the course.

Freeski Coach Level 1

 

Designed for working with children (specifically 5-12 years old) and entry standard competitors. Freeski Coach L1 is able to plan and run training sessions appropriate for developing and challenging their athletes’ skills.

 

There are two main classroom based modules on the course:

  • Planning a Training Session
  • Making Difficult Decisions

On snow the following content is covered:

  • Structuring a training session
  • Technical elements of snowboarding
  • Understanding skill acquisition
  • Skill analysis
  • Video analysis
  • Working with children

Students are assessed on their ability to ski switch on easy blue piste terrain, straight air with a grab on a 4-7m kicker, spin on a 2-3m kicker and slide a box sideways, as well as their ability to deliver and reflect on coaching sessions.

Licensed Status

Freeski Coach Level 1 + First Aid + Safeguarding Children + CRB / Disclosure Check

Freeski Coach Level 1 LICENSED STATUS will be able to plan and run a training session for young athletes by themselves, within a closed environment. They will have been assessed on delivery, reviewing and action-planning their own coaching sessions and on personal skiing performance.

 

Equipment Requirements

Twin Tip skis and a helmet are required. Impact shorts and a back protector are advisable.
