UKSS - Level 4 Coach

THE AWARD

The Level 4 Coach is the highest level of coaching licence offered by Snowsport England. It is recognised internationally and passing the award is a significant achievement for any coach

A level 4 coach is a person whose high levels of skill, experience and knowledge allow them to make a large contribution to the growth and development of both their skiers and their club or organizationA level 4 coach is able to gather knowledge from a variety of sources, develop it further and apply it to their coaching. A Level 4 Coach can think creatively, developing new ideas and concepts, taking the sport and their skiers forwards.

A level 4 coach can make adjustments to their session and long term plans and is able to vary modify session and long term planning content responding to any challenge.

The level 4 coach represents a final step towards the international recognition offered with the IVSI international licence. Candidates for level 4 are likely to operate in a role of significant responsibility within their club or organization.

The level 4 coach is authorised to operate worldwide working with skiers ranging from complete novice, to skiers who are able to show continuously linked parallel turning and to work with those seeking further specialization, often club members and those working towards becoming coaches themselves. It is envisaged that a level 4 coach is likely to make a significant contribution to the development of new coaches.

The Level 4 coach will possess a high level of understanding of both skiing and coaching, and will have extensive professional knowledge. They are likely to have an understanding of the coaching role and to incorporate and synthesise information from a wide variety of sources. In addition, it is expected that candidates will be able to demonstrate a significant level of skill within the skiing and coaching roles listed specifically for the assessment.

 

THE REQUIREMENTS

This award has the following core components:

  • The Level 4 training course. This may only be delivered in a mountain environment. The course will last for a minimum of 40 hours or 6 days.
  • Complete a coaching portfolio which shows the candidates work undertaken with skiers over a period of several months
  • Verified completion of an individual action plan given at the end of the Level 4 training course

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and be licenced as a Level 3 coach. Candidates with current, non Snowsport England coaching qualifications may apply to have their award recognised exempting them from the requirement to hold the Level 3 award.

FURTHER REQUIREMENTS

To be licenced all coaches and instructors must:

  • Be registered with Snowsport England
  • Hold an appropriate first aid certificate
  • Have completed an Enhanced DBS check
  • Have attended a safeguarding children in sport course
  • Every three years you are required to attend an appropriate course to update and refresher their qualification. In the case of the level 4 award that will usually be attendance at an annual coaching conference
