Voting open for the Ski Club of Great Britain’s 2017 Evie Pinching Award supported by Switzerland

Have your say and vote in the Evie Pinching Award, designed to recognise & support the best up-and-coming snowsports talent in the UK.

The Ski Club INSPIRE Awards recognise and reward talented individuals who are making a positive contribution to snowsports, and include the prestigious Evie Pinching Award supported by Switzerland.

This award celebrates the next generation of snowsports athletes, aged 24 and under, who are considered ‘ones-to-watch’ in their discipline. The winning athlete will be awarded a one-off bursary of £1,000 for the year to help with their training and competitions, this year the winner will also have the fantastic opportunity to take part in Swiss-Ski athlete training camps in the run up to the 2018 season.

The award is named after Evelyn Pinching, Britain’s first ski World Champion who won both the Downhill and Combined events at the 1936 World Championships in Innsbruck at the age of 21.

Previous winners include freestyle snowboarder Katie Ormerod who has gone on to win World Cup & X Games medals and visually impaired skier Menna Fitzpatrick who medalled in both World Cup and World Championship GS & Super G in 2017.

The athletes were nominated by the sport’s national governing bodies - Snowsport EnglandSnowsport ScotlandSnowsport WalesBritish Parasnowsport and British Ski and Snowboard - with a shortlist of 6 athletes chosen by the Ski Club.

Voting opens on June 1st at noon and closes on 14th June 2017 at 23.59.

The athlete with the most votes after the two-week period will receive the Evie Pinching Award supported by the Embassy of Switzerland in the UK and Switzerland Tourism.

Thomas Gerken Schofield

Discipline: Mogul Skiing | Age: 19 | Home: Essex

Thomas has had an unbelievable season on the Europa Cup circuit, clinching five podiums in Moguls and Dual Moguls throughout the season. His best results in 2017 came at the World Junior Freestyle Championships where he won two silver medals. 

Ellie Soutter

Discipline: Freeride/Freestyle/Boardercross Snowboarding | Age: 16 | Home: Surrey

Ellie, who grew up in Surrey and later moving to the French Alps, has had a fantastic season, clinching bronze at the Erzurum 2017 European Youth Olympic Festival in Snowboard Cross, as well as competing on the Junior Freeride World Tour, where she took second place in Grandvalira, Andorra. Ellie is a fantastic all-rounder capable of achieving outstanding results in all disciplines.

Laurie Taylor

Discipline: Alpine Skiing | Age: 20 | Home: Basingstoke

Taylor has been impressive form this season, primarily competing on the Europa Cup circuit. On his World Championships debut, he finished a very impressive 33rd in the Slalom after finishing third in the qualification race. He has been touted as the next Dave Ryding. 

Kirsty Muir

Discipline: Freestyle Skiing | Age: 13 | Home: Aberdeen

13 year old Kirsty Muir from Scotland is hot property at the moment, standing on the podium in all the freestyle ski events at the BRITS alongside GB Park and Pipe senior athletes. She was CSS at the Brits winner (recognising rising talent) and has been selected to GB Park and Pipe's Development programme for the 2017/18 season. She is truly one to watch!

James Whitley

Discipline: Parasnowsports standing class | Age: 19 | Home: East Sussex

James came into this season having just finished school and looking towards his first season as a full time athlete.  James competes in the toughest category in Parasnowsport, male standing class, and in a factored competition format, where races are decided on factored times, James has the lowest factoring of any impairment.  Against this he has made significant improvements across all 5 disciplines with a personal best of a 5th place in World Cup Super Combined, 7th place in the World Championships Slalom and seven other top ten World Cup results.  He has posted 3 results less than 1 second from the podium.

Cal Sandieson

Discipline: Freestyle Skiing | Age: 19 | Home: Glasgow

Cal has been skiing since he was 8 and it didn’t take long before he was a regular on the UK freestyle scene competing at dryslopes and snowdomes. Now 19 he has progressed to the parks of Europe with several strong results. 4th in the Youth Olympic Games Slopestyle last year and qualifying 11th in the World Championships in 2017 his season was capped off by winning the British Slopestyle Championships in Laax. Cal has the proven himself against his peers and is one of the top "up and coming” skiers on the WC tour.
