Sport England show confidence in Snowsport England’s strategy with funding announcement

Snowsport England has received a welcome vote of support today as Sport England, the grassroots sports investment agency, showed confidence in Snowsport England’s strategy to reinforce the grassroots of the sport including talented athletes, by awarding £1,050,000 over the next four years.

Snowsport England, the national governing body for skiing and snowboarding in the UK, are happy with the Sport England funding award, which includes specific National Lottery and Government funding, particularly with the investment in talented athletes (£200,000) and the confidence shown in their ability to grow snowsports participation in the UK (£850,000).

The funding announcement will support Snowsport England’s strategic direction to invest in the core of the sport including inspiring people to participate at their local club/facility, growing young talented athletes, get more people competing, getting more coaches coaching and encouraging more volunteers to make snowsports happen in clubs and organised activity across England.

The funding will also allow Snowsport England to further develop relationships with clubs and facilities across the country and improve the experience of existing skiers and snowboarders.

Jan Doyle, Head of Development for Snowsport England said: “Snowsport England is happy with the funding decision made by Sport England. This level of funding shows confidence by Sport England in our strategy to develop snowsports at a grassroots level and our commitment to their Towards an Active Nation strategy.

“We are also pleased that we got the maximum investment for our strategy to help young talented athletes reach the top of skiing or snowboarding. The recent success across all the snowsports disciplines is helping to bring the sport to a wider audience and is hugely exciting times with the Winter Olympics taking place in 2018.

“This funding decision really equips us to work with our core market including clubs, coaches, volunteers, athletes and the wider snowsport industry, supporting our focus over the next 4-8 years to reinforce the core infrastructure of our sport.”

Tim Fawke, CEO of Snowsport England said: “We are pleased with the continued support from Sport England and the National Lottery for Snowsport England. We are hugely ambitious about where we can take snowsports in this country over the next decade, we are making great progress on broadening investment into the sport and with commitment from Sport England now in place we can look ahead to the next four years with confidence, starting with the launch of our new strategy in 2017.”
