British Rollerski Championships - a race report by Jasmine

After an hour of travelling, I arrived to meet some people also part of the BNDS (British Nordic Development Squad). We dived straight into a classic technique training session where we focused on double pole and kick double pole.

Proceeding after a long lunch of eating and socialising, we set out again for a skate session. We worked on the timing of skate two and an obstacle course. In total, we approximately skied 4 hours of skiing, the day before the Championships.

Once settled into an accommodating youth hostel we finished the day off with a physio session where we worked on posture in our lower backs. Next day started with an early morning run, after which we set off to Castle Coombe.

My race consisted of one 3km lap in wet and grey conditions. I finished 1st in my category (of under 12) as so did many of the athletes on the BNDS in their categories.

A few biathlon races were held at the championships where Jo and I came third.

There was an awards ceremony where we got to meet the sponsors of the races. They gave a pair of Fischer skis to me and a pair of poles to another athlete. We all received at least one trophy and a smile which lasted for the rest of the day.

We drove straight back to London or flew back to Aberdeen feeling joyous of this great event.
