The English Schools Ski Association, promotes ski-racing competitions between school teams. Their aims are:

  • improve the excellence of young skiers
  • encourage the maximum student participation in competitive inter-school races
  • represent school skiing to all appropriate bodies concerned with education, sport and ski travel

Joining ESSKIA

  • Membership is open to all Schools and Sixth Form Colleges (or equivalent) in England.

Membership of ESSkiA (or being an affiliated school as we call it) is a joint membership of ESSKIA and Snowsport England.

Remember it is the school or college that is affiliated, and the school must give approval.

The affiliation fee provides the opportunity for pupils to takepart in races and training days in England, and snow training and races abroad.

For further information regarding membership please contact the Secretary, Gillian Gilyead, on 01582 833582 or by email at .

ESSKIA Ski Squads

Any individual who performs well in the September qualifying races may be invited to go for a week's snow training with an ESSKIA squad the following spring.

The training camps and squads are a pathway to our ISF (International School Sports Federation) Squad, who every two years take on other Schools squads at the World Schools Championships.

The most prestigious event that any school child can aspire to through ESSKIA is to be selected to represent England at the ISF World Schools Ski Championships.

Squads are selected at three levels (Primary, Junior & Senior). The criteria that considered in squad selection are:

  • Racing in the ESSKIA Championships as a member of a school team
  • Attendance at previous competitions and trainings
  • Attitude, behaviour and progress
  • Race results on snow and plastic
  • Age
