ELLIE SOUTTER 2000-2018

Snowsport England is saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Ellie Soutter, 18.

Ellie was one of the country’s best up-and-coming snowboarders, competing in both snowboard cross and freeride.

A bronze medallist in snowboard cross at the 2017 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Erzurum, Turkey, Ellie claimed Team GB’s only medal of the event.

Top student-athletes celebrated at 2018 TASS Stars Awards

Five talented athletes from across England have been revealed as 2018 TASS Stars Awards winners in celebration of an exceptional year of performances both on and off the field.

More than 400 TASS-supported athletes were eligible to be put forward for an award and from the scores of nominations received, a shortlist of fourteen finalists came together at a presentation afternoon alongside the Müller Anniversary Games in London.

IOC confirms Ski Big Air for 2022 Olympic programme

The International Olympic Committee announced overnight that Ski Big Air will be included in the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games programme, a decision welcomed by British Ski & Snowboard. With Great Britain already home to a host of world class freestyle skiers competing successfully in Big Air events at World Cups and X-Games, there is the realistic proposition of Team GB vying for more freestyle skiing medals in four years’ time.

British Ski Academy GBR Series Outdoor 5 Race Report

GBR 5, the last race of the series was held at Chatham slope last weekend and proved to be a very exciting race, especially the second run. It was all to play for with the overall standings being so close in the females and males. As many people are aware, Chatham Ski Slope had only recently changed the matting back to denex, allowing this race to happen, which gave everyone a fair chance.

British Ski Academy GBR Series Race 4 Race Report

On a hot and sunny Sunday the 1st of July saw round 4 of the GBR series in Pontypool. 

The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, something the chief of race felt was important for the competitors. 

 

After an exciting Race 3 on the Saturday many of the racers were hoping to improve their results and they didn't disappoint. 

The two courses were set by Alan Lyndsey and David Eaves with Izzy Evans giving feedback as the forerunner. 

 

It's Coming Home!

Exciting times ahead for Ski & Snowboard Cross

The emerging disciplines of ski cross and snowboard cross are gaining a stronger foothold in British snowsports which is reflected in the national squad and coaching structure announced for the 2018/19 season.

Following the recruitment of Guillaume Nantermod as the programme’s head coach in 2017, former French national coach Jerome Choupin has recently joined the squad as snowboard cross World Cup coach.

British Ski Academy GBR Series Outdoor 3 Race Report

After record breaking temperatures around the Home Nations in the past week, racers from all over the UK made their way up to the Pontypool slope from 7:30am; the significantly cooler conditions were a welcome relief for all. Whilst the cool air offered a brief rest bite from the heat, there would be little let up in the GBR Series competition, as the atmosphere and buzz of excitement for the racing ahead began to make its presence felt with racers and their families setting up their shelters for the day.

British Indoor Telemark Championships Race Report

The British Indoor Telemark Championships took place at Manchester over the weekend of 30th June and 1st July, 2018.  The minus 3 of the indoor ski slope was a welcome relief from melting roads and sweltering temperatures outside.
