British Ski Academy GBR Series Race 4 Race Report

Words by Charlie Tubbs, Snowsport England Dryslope Ambassador

On a hot and sunny Sunday the 1st of July saw round 4 of the GBR series in Pontypool.

The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, something the chief of race felt was important for the competitors.

After an exciting Race 3 on the Saturday many of the racers were hoping to improve their results and they didn't disappoint.

The two courses were set by Alan Lyndsey and David Eaves with Izzy Evans giving feedback as the forerunner.

In the Under 12 girls Amber Fennell came back strong winning Gold followed by Daisy Putman, Ffion Lewis, Kitty-Jay Caldwell and Erin Lloyd.

Agatha Favill won Gold in the Under 10's and Lowri Howie Silver.

All of the mini girls improved their times on the 2nd run and produced some excellent skiing.

The under 12 boys saw Lewis Parton 1st, Liam Atkinson continued his good form coming 2nd, Finlay Royle 3rd, Geno Hounsham 4th and Joshua Colling 5th.

In the Under 10's Ryan Faber won Gold, Owen Begley Silver and Xavier Poynton Bronze.

Again, all boys improving their time on the 2nd run.

The ladies put down some impressive times with Nicole Shering putting Saturday's race behind her by being the fastest female on both runs.

Eva Pascoe was in hot pursuit coming 2nd and Ella Giles 3rd overall.

The mens race was equally exciting with some very determined racers keen to take the top spot.

Toby Case came out the overall winner with the two fastest runs of the day followed by Harri Evans and Will Austin.

Craig Speed unfortunately fell on the second run however he got up and completed the race, consoling himself with the 50p he found in the matting.

The improvement in the racers is clear to see with the Under 14 and Under 16 racers both male and female now challenging for the top positions.

Both Emma Trust and Joseph Thompson just missing out on 3rd overall.

Another enjoyable day at Pontypool was over. It was time to take down the gazebos, pack up the trolleys and head home.
