Latest roller ski racing news - who will be the winners?

This autumn sees the introduction of the London Region Challenge Cup series of matched roller ski races, as well as new The Barnaby Norman Memorial Race, for the under 20s, whilst the GB Series reaches its finale on 28 October.

Organised by London Region Nordic Ski Club [LRNSC] with matched Marwe skis supplied by The Roller Ski Co, the 10.5km senior and 4.5km junior Time Trial races opened the Challenge Cup on 23 September at Hillingdon Cycle Circuit. Joseph Rosenfeld and Fern Cates won the senior categories, and the other results available at

The next races in the series are the 42km marathon on 20 October again at Hillingdon, and on 3 November the 1hr/30min races at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The Barnaby Norman Memorial Race aims to encourage young nordic skiers to race against each other regardless of ability and experience. It is designed to challenges skills and agility. There are three age categories with the U20 category being run on matched skis. Entry is free of charge to Snowsport England and Snowsport Scotland club members who register at

This new event has been developed by LRNSC with the British Nordic Development Squad [BNDS] and the Roller Ski Co. with the support of the Norman family. It commemorates former regional BNDS skier, Barnaby Norman, who died tragically at the age of 19.

Barnaby was an enthusiastic and talented young skier who had recently started training with the English section of the BNDS. He was a promising cross country runner and also brought the skills, balance and core strength he had gained during his six years at the Royal Ballet School to nordic skiing. In January 2018 he went to Norway to develop his cross country skiing where he died as a result of a short illness following a chest infection.

The GB Roller Ski Series comprises nine races organised by English and Scottish nordic ski clubs culminating in the matched ski races at Castle Combe Circuit organised by Wessex Biathlon & Nordic Ski Club. Results to date can be seen at
