Information for Coaches

Our Safeguarding Policy SnowSafe applies to everyone working with children and young people in snowsport.  Please ensure you are familiar with it, and abide by it.  There is also a wealth of information in our SnowSafe 2017 – Manual for Clubs.  This includes guidance on transporting children, social media, organising trips away etc.

All our coaches and instructors are required to abide by the Snowsport England Coaches Code of Ethics, Conduct and Practice.  Failure to abide by it, or Snowsafe, could lead to disciplinary action.

DBS Disclosures – all our coaches and instructors must have a Snowsport England (SSE), or SSE approved DBS.  This must be Enhanced with barred list check for working with children.  If you have one issued by another organisation we may be able to accept it if you have joined the DBS Update Service and we are able to do a satisfactory Status Update Check.  For further information, or to apply for a DBS, see our DBS pages.

Safeguarding Training – all our coaches and instructors must be up to date with their safeguarding training.  You need to be aware of good safeguarding practice in snowsport and know what to do if you see or hear something that causes you concern, or if a child tells you something that causes them concern.   See our safeguarding training pages for further details of the courses we will accept.  If you attend a different course, or complete a different e-learning course as a Refresher, we may not be able to accept it.

Club Welfare Officer – All clubs should have a Club Welfare Officer (CWO).  Please ensure you know who your CWO is, and how to contact them.  If you have any questions or concerns you should contact them without delay.

We want our coaches and instructors to feel supported in their role.  If you need any guidance or advice regarding safeguarding, or working with young people, and you can’t get the answers from your CWO, please contact our Safeguarding Lead – and she will be happy to help.
