Inaugural Claire Pennell Volunteer Awards Presented at the All England Championships
Two exceptional volunteers honoured in memory of a much-loved figure in snowsport
During the weekend of the All England Championships, Snowsport England was proud to present the inaugural Claire Pennell Volunteer Awards, recognising two outstanding individuals whose commitment and contribution embody the values Claire championed throughout her life.
Following the sad passing of much-loved colleague Claire Pennell in 2025, the awards were established in her honour to celebrate the volunteers who are at the heart of the sport. Claire's passion, dedication and unwavering commitment to supporting volunteers left a lasting impact across the snowsports community, and her encouragement, kindness and genuine care for others continue to inspire those who knew and worked alongside her.
Created with the blessing and support of Claire's family, the awards will become an annual celebration of exceptional volunteering, with recipients selected by an independent panel in future years. This year's inaugural presentation was particularly meaningful, as both winners shared a personal connection with Claire, making the occasion a fitting tribute to her enduring legacy.
Leasa Bullock named Volunteer of the Year
The first Claire Pennell Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Leasa Bullock, recognising more than two decades of dedicated service to snowsport.
Leasa began volunteering after becoming involved as a ski parent and has since become one of the sport's most respected and valued volunteers. Widely known for her knowledge, support and willingness to help others, she has made a significant contribution to countless events and competitions across the country.
As a race secretary, Leasa performs one of the most vital yet often unseen roles within the sport. Working tirelessly behind the scenes, she ensures competitions run smoothly, coordinates essential event administration and keeps athletes, officials and volunteers informed. Her dedication helps form the foundation upon which successful races are built.
Over the past year alone, Leasa has supported numerous GBR events and races nationwide. Always ready with a smile, an encouraging word and practical support, she exemplifies the qualities Claire valued most in a volunteer.
Speaking after receiving the award, Leasa said she was honoured to become the first-ever recipient of the Claire Pennell Volunteer Award.
Chloe Chapman recognised as Young Volunteer of the Year
The inaugural Claire Pennell Young Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Chloe Chapman, whose enthusiasm and commitment have already made a significant impact despite her relatively short time volunteering.
Chloe has embraced a wide range of roles within the sport, from coaching at her local club to supporting the English Alpine Championships as an official. She has also volunteered her time with Snowsport England, recently researching and collating historical material that helped create the special 50th edition of the All England annual publication.
In addition, Chloe plays a leading role within the University Ambassador programme and previously completed work experience with Snowsport England, demonstrating her dedication to developing the sport at every opportunity.
Away from snowsports, Chloe is a passionate runner who rarely misses the chance to take part in a parkrun. Earlier this year, she completed a half marathon alongside her father, Dave, raising funds for the British Heart Foundation in Claire's memory. Her commitment to both volunteering and supporting causes close to Claire's heart made her a particularly fitting recipient of the inaugural award.
