Snowsport England launch Snowsports Coach Apprentice scheme
We are delighted that this year we are launching a new initiative to become a Snowsports Coach Apprentice. This is a fully-funded Level 3 Sports Coach Apprenticeship scheme, in partnership with an Ofsted approved provider, with applications open now for the 2026/27 season.
As a national governing body, we are acutely aware that training as a snowsports instructor/coach is not cheap, even though we do everything possible to keep course costs down. We also have a responsibility to provide a pathway for our best athletes to remain in the sport as a part or full-time coach. Whilst there are many great gap year instructor programmes out there, this is the first one we are aware of, which:
is backed by the national governing body
has no course fees for those on the programme
includes a salary
offers the opportunity to complete up to ten courses over 12 months
provides an opportunity to qualify to work in the mountains as both a ski instructor and Alpine Performance (Race) Coach
The pilot programme is designed for high-level skiers who will have some competitive experience and likely be supported by their affiliated club and coach.
We plan to expand the programme in subsequent years to include freestyle, snowboarding and potentially broaden further.

Please include you name, age and brief description about your background in skiing. Further details on the next steps in the process will be sent to you in due course.
