The History of Snowy
In 2024, we collaborated with Kimberley Kay, a Sheffield-based author and illustrator, to create our bespoke snowsports safeguarding mascot. The aim was to create a friendly, familiar face that children will recognise and help guide them through our safeguarding content. Kimberley created three versions: skiing, snowboarding and sit-skiing.
“I hope that the character will inspire and comfort youngsters as a friendly face when they have challenging or confusing situations to deal with,” said Kimberley.
Snowsport England followed up with a ‘Name the Mascot’ competition through newsletters and social media. ‘Snowy’ was by far the most popular name suggested - reflecting the fact that the children saw the character as a helmet-wearing snowball - and so Snowy was named.
