Start your journey as a freestyle performance coach.

Take your first step into coaching park and pipe and help develop the next generation of freestyle skiers and snowboarders.

The Park & Pipe Foundation Performance Coach (Level 1) qualification introduces you to coaching in freestyle environments. It equips you with the skills and understanding to support entry-level athletes and young competitors as they begin their performance journey in park, pipe and freestyle disciplines.

This qualification is for both skiers and snowboarders and can be delivered in artificial slope and indoor snow centre environments across the UK.

With this award, you’ll be able to assist and support coaching sessions for entry-level freestyle athletes, helping them build strong technical foundations in the park and halfpipe environments.

Park & Pipe Foundation PERFOMANCE COACH - Level 1

Minimum Age
16 years-old

Prerequisites
- Be able to show linked steering and be approaching the assessment criteria

Course Duration
Two days (14 hours)

Assessment
Ongoing assessment during the course and through workplace training

Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is designed for:

·         Skiers and snowboarders taking their first steps into freestyle performance coaching

·         Individuals interested in working with young freestyle athletes in club or centre environments

·         Coaches or instructors looking to move into Park & Pipe development

No prior coaching experience is required.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

During the course, you’ll develop the core skills needed to support freestyle athletes, including:

·         Understanding the fundamentals of Park & Pipe coaching

·         Developing your own freestyle technical performance

·         Supporting entry-level skiers and snowboarders in structured sessions

·         Introducing key movement fundamentals (balance, rotation, edging and pressure control)

·         Assisting with planning and delivering simple training sessions

·         Creating a safe and engaging freestyle learning environment

·         Communicating effectively with young athletes and other coaches

You’ll also be introduced to long-term athlete development in freestyle environments and how to support progression in park and pipe disciplines.

Working towards YOUR LICENCE

To complete your Level 1 qualification:

·         Complete the full course

·         Apply learning through workplace training

·         Maintain and complete your coaching logbook

·         Hold current Snowsport England membership

Additional requirements for licensing include: valid First Aid, safeguarding training and DBS check.

NEXT STEPS

Once qualified, you can progress to the Park & Pipe Club Performance Coach (Level 2), where you will begin coaching developing freestyle athletes in structured club environments.
