Lead and shape the future of coaching

The Alpine Ski Development Coach (Level 4) is the highest qualification within the UK snowsports coaching pathway.

It represents the transition from experienced coach to coaching leader - someone who not only develops skiers, but also shapes programmes, supports other coaches, and contributes to the wider snowsports system.

This qualification is designed for those operating at an advanced level and looking to make a broader impact across clubs, centres, and the coaching community.

Minimum age
16+ year-old

Pre-requisites
Ski Development Coach (Level 3) or recognised equivalent

Course duration
Six days (35 hours)

Assessment
- Portfolio submission

Where you can teach
- Indoor snow centres (UK)
- Artificial slopes
- Mountain environment

Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is for highly experienced coaches who:

  • Lead long-term coaching programmes

  • Work with advanced or performance-focused skiers

  • Support and mentor other coaches

  • Contribute to coach education and development

You should already be operating confidently at Level 3 and looking to progress into leadership within coaching.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

Level 4 focuses on leadership, expertise and impact.

You’ll develop:

  • Advanced understanding of coaching, learning and performance

  • The ability to design and lead long-term development programmes

  • Skills to mentor, support and develop other coaches

  • Critical reflection and evaluation of coaching practice

  • Your own performance and technical expertise at an expert level

You’ll also explore how coaching contributes to the wider snowsports system and athlete development.

Working towards YOUR LICENCE

Level 4 is a structured, in-depth process combining training, experience and independent work.

To achieve this qualification, you will:

  • Attend advanced training modules and workshops

  • Work with mentors and peers to develop your practice

  • Complete a detailed coaching portfolio

  • Undertake a project or research-based submission

  • Present your work as part of a formal assessment process

This process reflects your ability to operate at an advanced, leadership level within coaching.

Additional requirements for licensing include: valid First Aid, safeguarding training and DBS check.
