Roller ski instructor - Level 1

Start your journey as a roller ski instructor.

Take your first step into instructing and help more people discover the enjoyment of roller skiing.

The Roller Ski Instructor (Level 1) qualification is your entry point into the Snowsport England Roller Ski pathway. It provides you with the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to deliver safe, enjoyable introductory roller ski sessions.

With this award, you'll be able to introduce beginners to roller skiing in suitable environments, supporting participants as they develop confidence, balance and fundamental roller ski skills.

QUALIFICATION OVERVIEW

Minimum age
16 year-old

Pre-requisites
Be able to demonstrate sound competence in both classic and skating techniques (e.g. roller ski 3* proficiency)

Course duration
Two days (14 hours)

Assessment
Continuous assessment throughout the training course

Where you can teach
- Roller ski clubs
- Closed-road and traffic-free venues
- Other suitable roller ski environments approved by your provider

Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is designed for:

·       Confident roller skiers looking to take their first step into instructing

·       Club members who want to support beginner sessions

·       Individuals interested in becoming qualified roller ski instructors

No prior teaching experience is required.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

During the course, you'll develop the core skills needed to deliver safe and engaging introductory roller ski sessions, including:

  • Teaching fundamental roller ski skills

  • Planning and delivering beginner sessions

  • Applying key teaching and communication techniques

  • Managing groups safely

  • Understanding equipment, safety and risk management

  • Creating enjoyable learning experiences that build confidence and encourage progression

Working towards YOUR LICENCE

To complete your Level 1 qualification, you need to:

·       Attend and successfully complete the full course

·       Meet the required assessment criteria

·       Hold current Snowsport England membership

Additional requirements for licensing include: valid First Aid, safeguarding training and DBS check.

NEXT STEPS

Once qualified, you can progress to the Roller Ski Instructor (Level 2) and continue building your teaching experience and opportunities.
