START Cross-Country INSTRUCTING & COACHING

Inspire skiers to explore the trails and develop their skills.

Whether you want to introduce new skiers to the sport, support your local club, or progress into coaching and leadership, the Snowsport England pathway provides a clear route into instructing and coaching.

Unlike some other snowsport pathways, the Cross-Country pathway begins at Level 2 Instructor, recognising the technical skills needed to teach the sport.

  • Share your passion for cross-country skiing.

  • Help more people develop their skills and confidence.

  • Develop your own technical and coaching expertise.

  • Support your local club and the wider Nordic community.

  • Gain nationally recognised qualifications.

  • Progress into coaching and leadership opportunities.

Whether you're looking to give something back to your club, volunteer, develop your coaching career or take on a new challenge, there's a pathway for you.

why become a cross-Country coach?

start where you are.
progress as far as you want.

Begin your instructing journey. Learn how to plan and deliver safe, enjoyable lessons, helping skiers develop their classic and skate skiing techniques with confidence.

Move into coaching. Plan and deliver longer-term coaching programmes that support skiers' technical development, performance and progression.

Lead coaching programmes, mentor other coaches and contribute to the development of cross-country skiing within your club and the wider nordic community.

ready to book?

Find a course and take the next step towards becoming a roller ski coach.

Not sure if you’re ready?

If you're confident in both classic and skate cross-country skiing and can demonstrate the required technical standard (typically Snowsport England 4* On-Snow Proficiency or equivalent), you're likely ready to begin at Level 2 Instructor.

Previous instructional experience is desirable but not essential. A minimum of 20 hours of on-snow or roller ski instructional experience, recorded in your logbook (or equivalent), is recommended before attending the course.

Many of our instructors started as enthusiastic recreational skiers or club members before taking the next step.
