The Cross-Country Ski Instructor (Level 2) qualification is the entry point into the Snowsport England Cross-Country coaching pathway. It equips you with the knowledge, technical understanding and practical skills to teach skiers from beginner to intermediate level on snow.

With this award, you'll be able to introduce new skiers to the sport, develop their confidence and technique, and provide the foundations for their continued progression.

Cross-Country Ski Instructor - Level 2

QUALIFICATION OVERVIEW

Minimum age
18 years-old

Pre-requisites
- Be a current Snowsport England member.
- Demonstrate an appropriate standard in both classic and skate skiing (typically Snowsport England 4* On-Snow Proficiency or equivalent).
- A minimum of 20 hours of on-snow or roller ski instructional experience, recorded in your logbook (or equivalent), is desirable.

Four days (24 hours)

Assessment
Continuous assessment throughout the training course

- Prepared tracks and suitable low-level mountain terrain

Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is designed for:

  • Instructors who want to work with beginner to intermediate cross-country skiers.

  • Club instructors looking to deliver structured, progressive lessons.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

During the course, you'll develop the knowledge and skills to:

·       Teach beginner to intermediate cross-country skiers.

·       Deliver lessons in both classic and skate skiing.

·       Analyse skiing technique and provide effective feedback.

·       Plan and deliver safe, engaging learning experiences.

·       Adapt your teaching to suit different ages, abilities and learning styles.

·       Understand equipment selection, waxing, safety and risk management.

·       Build the foundations for long-term skier development.

Working towards YOUR LICENCE

To complete your Level 2 qualification, you need to:

·       Attend and successfully complete the full course

·       Meet the required assessment criteria

·       Hold current Snowsport England membership

Additional requirements for licensing include: valid First Aid, safeguarding training and DBS check.

NEXT STEPS

Once qualified, you can progress to the Cross-Country Ski Coach (Level 3), where you'll learn to plan and deliver longer-term coaching programmes that support skier development and performance.
